What is examined during a check up?

During all examinations, the dentist will:

• Take a detailed medical, social and previous dental history
• Perform an extra- oral examination to check lymph nodes, facial muscles and jaw joint
• Perform an intra-oral examination to check your soft tissues, evaluate the risks of gum disease and tooth decay and toothwear
• Possibly take x-rays and perform other diagnostic tests
• Discuss the outcomes of your examination as well as treatment options

How often should I visit the dentist?

Most people should have a regular dental examination every six to twelve months.
